Durin in Genshin Impact: who created the dragon and its history

All information about Durin, created by a witch: his history, connection with Albedo and the dragon from the fairy tale.

Durin in Genshin impact - An ancient dragon that once attacked Mondstadt and was laid to rest on the Dragon Ridge. Its remains can be found in the snow of a mountain in the southeast of the Anemo kingdom, and with the release of version 4.8, new information has appeared, based on which the creature can be resurrected and again take part in the plot of the game.

In this article we will tell you what is known about the dragon and its past. We will also explain how Durin from Mondstadt and Mini-Durin from Simulanka are connected and what the plot of a witch’s book about an evil dragon could mean.

Who is Durin in Genshin Impact

Durin is a shadow dragon who is first mentioned in quests related to Mondstadt. Once upon a time, the alchemist “Gold” artificially created him, releasing him to Teyvat so that he could show his beauty to others. However, due to the difference in vision of the world and the creature’s influence on the environment, a conflict arose between the inhabitants of the Anemo region and the dragon and a struggle began, during which the dark creature died.

It is interesting that Durin in mythology represents one of the ancestors of the dwarves, and the name of the dragon itself means “bringer of dreams.” He also appears in "Herver's Saga", where with the help of Dwalin he forges a mythical sword.

Will Durin be playable?

Even before the release of version 4.8, one of the reliable insiders with the nickname GIntel shared a rumor that Durin might become a playable character in future updates. Thanks to the summer event "Summer! Dragons? Fairy tale!" More information was revealed, but at the same time there was a little confusion.

In addition to the fact that the Traveler, along with other heroes, saved the Simulanka from the evil dragon Durin, who was actually misunderstood due to his appearance, Albedo, who visited the fairy world, reported that Durin on the Dragon Ridge could be resurrected after some time.

Therefore, it is now not entirely clear which of the characters the insider had in mind, and what ultimately awaits the players in the future plot.

Durin's story

Durin was artificially created by the alchemist Reindottir in Kaenri'ah, after which he was sent to see Teyvat. Due to the fact that the creations of "Gold" see the world differently, despite the creature's desire to befriend the inhabitants of Mondstadt and their protector Dwalin, he brought destruction to the Anemo region. Barbatos and his friend entered into battle with him and defeated Durin.

Subsequently, the shadow dragon's body fell onto Dragonspine, where it was left to lie bleeding with poisonous blood. It was absorbed into the ground, which led to the revival of the Permafrost Tree and the strengthening of local creatures, making the location dangerous for exploration.

Who created Durin

The creator of Durin is Reindottir - one of the participants Five Sinners Kaenri'ah. Created through the art of Khemia in the ancient kingdom, the dragon was considered the finest creation of the humus layer, far superior to the witch's other works.

How Albedo and Durin are related

Thanks to being a kind of mother Albedo and Durina is Reindottir, her creations are brothers to each other. In addition, while working on an artificial person, some of Rain’s creations turned out to be unsuccessful, which is why the alchemist disposed of them, giving them to the dragon to be devoured.

How Dwalin and Durin are related

During Durin's attack on Mondstadt 500 years ago, the Anemo ed the fight against the shadow dragon to stop the destruction. Archon and the dragon of the east Dvalin. Together, they managed to defeat the creature Reindottir, after which its body fell on the Peak of Vindagnir, but the dragon protector was infected with poisonous blood and fell into a long sleep.

Where is Durin's heart?

In order to find the place of Durin's death, go to dragon backbone in Mondstadt. Use the teleportation point in the north of the mountain and you will see the Sleeping Dragon Gorge, where the skeleton of the creature and the cave with its heart are located.

In addition, on the territory of the snowy mountain you can find Unusual fangs belonging to Durin. With its help, you get a nourished dragon fang, which is useful for creating Dragonspine Spears.

The Story of Mini-Durin of Simulanka: A Reflection of Fate

In version 4.8, one of the main characters of the “Summer! Dragons? Fairy tale!" becomes Mini-Durin, whose history is closely connected with the creation of Reindottir. In the fairy-tale world of Simulanka, created by three witches of the coven, Alice Calls him Mini-Durin.

The stories of the Traveler and Mini-Durin are similar in that both tried to live peacefully with those around them, but were misunderstood and turned to the dark side. In addition, at the event, the witches discussed that the life of the little dragon from Simulanka is a reflection of events that have already happened and may yet happen in the future of Teyvat. Albedo warns Master Hat, who has befriended the creature, that the real Durin will likely be resurrected and asks him to be stopped just like what happened in the fairy tale world.

The plot of the book Dreams of the Ancient Capital

While traveling through Simulanka, you can find witch's secret room on one of the islands. It contains the book “Dreams of the Ancient Capital,” which tells about the adventure of the girl Lysia, whose hometown was destroyed by a black dragon.

Using magic, she puts the evil creature to sleep and shows him different worlds. Then she rewinds time and returns it to the moment when it had not yet destroyed her house. Waking up from her sleep, Lisia meets a certain black-haired man who is the reincarnation of a dragon.

Stories of witches are often intertwined with real events in Teyvat, so it is possible that the plot of the book hints at a possible future.

...And after completing the event* with the revival of Durin (Mini-Durin in human form~) in the event in 5.6, the heart on the ridge will go out and the fangs can be filled on the anvil in the adventurer's camp, located just north of the Ridge.
It looks so-so, there is no logic in it either: it was possible to continue dipping teeth in the remains of blood and energy, and not in a completely ordinary anvil... or at least the blacksmith could do it using some secret technology of his own...
But this situation adds questions:
If new players missed Mini-Durin's appearance in Simulanka, will they also miss Durin's rebirth as a human? But will Hoyo miss out on the opportunity to monetize it? Or will new players who missed this event* have both a living heart in the mountains and a new character..?
... Or will Hoyo finally introduce archive events? Because temporary (!) events that affect the plot are very pathetic 🙁

There was talk of Durin becoming playable even before Natlan actually came out. They are generally tweaking the dialogue in quests for new players, so they will probably come up with something here, but for now the heart thing is really weird.

But the current events with Mini-Durin are not an event, but an intermediate volume of the Archons' quest. It will remain forever. For newcomers, they will obviously make a remark, which was tested in this patch: for example, I have not played during the Albedo event, so a separate reference appeared for me with a description of its events. I think that's how it will be.

In the New Archon Quest, everything was explained. Durin will be a man, but with horns and wings.

>Playable Durin?
I've certainly heard the theory about Dwalin's playability, but would it be partially true?
Maybe he will be resurrected as a human and we must help him/stop him.
And Natlan is closely connected with the Dragons...
We'll see!

I'm very interested in how they'll show the game Durin. He's a dragon and I honestly have no idea what he'll look like in the role of a game character.
I would guess that it would be pyro or hydro.

And won't Capitano turn out to be a reincarnation? Well, that's just a bit of nonsense. By the way, a similar story happened to Elinas. He also didn't understand that he was causing harm to the inhabitants of Fontaine, he thought it was just a game. Maybe they'll tell about him later.
Thank you for the article!

While reading, I also thought that it could be Capitano. Many facts point to this: firstly, Capitano is 300-500, which means that he is not an ordinary person or a person at all. Secondly, information about this dragon and a black-haired person (most likely a man) appeared in the Simulanka, which foretells the imminent Natlan, where Capitano will come out. Thirdly, I believe that the Wanderer, the former Harbinger of Fatui, was able to "pacify" Durin. It is possible (but not a fact) that this is somehow connected with the fact that Scaramuccia and Il Capitano were previously colleagues. With the release of Natlan and the First One himself, we will be able to test this theory.

Capitano will not be playable, nor will Signora. They are both dead according to the plot.

He is not completely “dead” and if the developers wish, they can bring back both him and the truly dead Signora.
