If you want to know the whole story, you should talk to the local law enforcement officer, he will not only give you valuable information, but also give you an assignment that will allow you to earn some money.

During the quest, the Publican will have to find Matush from the Devil's Pack and discuss pressing issues. At the request of the bailiff, you also need to take the book from him.
Talk to the bailiff from Myshkovitsy
First of all it's worth it talk to the bailiff from Myshkovitsy. Choose the following lines to learn more about the robber:
- "I heard Matush is disturbing the peace here?"
- "And where does Matush repair the havoc?"
- "I'll be glad to help."
- "You didn't say anything about it."
Having agreed to deal with the bandits, you will receive an additional request - the bailiff needs the book that Matush had previously stolen.
Catch the robber Matush, nicknamed the Publican
You can catch the robber Matush, nicknamed the Publican, near the forest located between Myshkovitsy and Sukhdol. Use fast travel, during which you will see the event "Publican Matush?". Select the option "Appeal to a man".
Don't rush to get your sword out, first approach the gang leader and start a conversation. The following lines will be optimal:
- "Won't you miss the gang?"
- "Do you like being a robber?"
- "The Devil has noble thoughts."
- "Your truth."
- "Duty".
Eventually the conversation about Dry Devil will end, but the Tax Collector will start demanding payment of the duty. First it is worth trying one of three tests skills:
- "The devil will still take revenge" - verification of belief.
- "Do you know there's a price on your head?" - intimidation test.
- "I won't give you anything" - intimidation test.
If you fail the persuasion check, you will still have the chance to leave peacefully by paying 1000 pennies. This money can be returned later. It is not worth fighting with the bandits - there are seven of them, and it is a long way to Sukhdol.
After completing the dialogue, you can immediately catch up with Publican Matush and buy a book from him by choosing the following response options:
- "Rumor has it you stole a rare book."
- "I'll take it" — the product will cost 500 groszy.
Matush is also a skill teacher. For 3000 groschen you can learn sword fighting, heavy weapons, polearms, and also improve your shooting, stealth and stealth skills.
If you decide to kill him now or later, you will be able to get back the money you spent.
Get into Matusha's camp
If you decide not to kill Matush now or not to buy the book, there is another option that allows you to return both the stolen money and the bailiff's item. From the road where the ambush occurred, move south into the forest. There you will find a stronghold of the bandits.
The easiest time to get into Matush's camp is at night, after 23:00 PM. Two or three bandits usually patrol the entrances, they can be easily lured with a stone and killed.
Go around the camp from the west and go through the tent to the fire. It is important to eliminate the most combat-ready fighter here, then head to the tents on the left. You will find the leader on the floor - now all that remains is to simply kill Matush without a twinge of conscience.
At the leader's you will find not only a rare book from Sedlec, but also previously stolen money almost in full. In the tent through which you ed to the fire, you will find a chest locked with a medium lock. There is the equipment of the bandits, including weapons and armor.
Take the book to the bailiff
Return to Myshkovitsy. Before going to the bailiff, it is recommended to rent a room in the tavern and read the book you received, it will significantly increase level of scholarship. Then go to the quest giver and choose the line "I brought you this book" to complete the quest.
Is it possible to persuade Matush?
Regardless of Indro's behavior: whether he will be rude or try to appease the Publican, Matush will not return to the flock. He became a bandit and is now his own boss, this arrangement suits him more than well. For this reason, you can enter the battle and kill the bandit without any doubts.
Reward
Not counting the loot from the bandits' camp, you will receive 285 groschen from the bailiff for completing the quest.
