Roland in Baldur's Gate 3 - a male tiefling and a valuable ally, with whom, but it will not be possible to establish relations with him right away. His story stretches over 3 acts, and if you manage to save him, you will receive a strong comrade-in-arms in the finale, ready to help in the final battle. Where to find Roland in Baldur's Gate 3 in all acts
You will be able to find Roland in every act of the game, but each meeting could be your last if you interact with the character incorrectly. Unfortunately, in most cases he will not react positively to the help offered to him, so he will be cold towards the hero. But if you want Roland to live to see Act 3 and the end of the game, provide him with all possible help despite objections.
Roland in the first act
You will be able to meet Roland for the first time in the Emerald Grove, in Act 1: He tries to convince his siblings to leave the stronghold and go to Baldur's Gate on their own. There are several options for the development of events that affect his future fate:
- If you ignore the conversation or fail to convince Roland to stay in the grove, he will go to the city on his own and die along the way.
- If you side with the goblins and destroy the grove, the tiefling will die in battle.
- If you convince Roland to stay in the fortification by ing the charisma test [KS - 10], he will help in the defense of the Druids' refuge and, together with everyone else, will head to Baldur's Gate.
The last option is correct if you want to meet the tiefling again in the next act and continue its story.
Roland in the second act
Roland successfully reaches the Last Light tavern in Act 2, which cannot be said about his brothers and sisters. After the first dialogue, he will go looking for them on his own and will get into trouble from which he will have to be pulled out. We will explain in more detail below how to save it.
Roland in the third act
Roland's location in Magic supplies and depending on whether the tieflings were saved in Act 2 or all died, he will treat the hero differently:
- If his brothers and sisters didn't make it out Lorroacana will side with the wizard and inevitably die.
- Otherwise, the tiefling will take the side of the hero, and after the battle will become the head Elder brain.
If you were able to guide Roland through all the acts and make friends with him, you will receive a valuable ally who will play a significant role in the final battle.
How to get the quest Find Rolan in the Shadows in BG3
The quest will become available when you get to Act 2 and talk to the tiefling in the Last Light tavern. He will greatly regret that he sacrificed Leah and Kela and could not save them from the Absolute’s captivity, but he will not go into details and refuse to talk further. To figure out where Roland will end up next, wait one night and talk to the kids at the bar: they will notice that the tiefling is missing, but they don't know exactly where it went. However, after previous dialogues with him, it can be assumed that he went to save his brothers and sisters alone.
Walkthrough of the quest Find Rolan in the Shadows in Baldur's Gate 3
During the quest, you need to help Rolan return to the Last Light, finding him in the Lands affected by a dark curse, saving him from the shadows and promising to independently rescue his loved ones from prison. This is the only way to complete his story with a good ending and win him as an ally in the finale.
How to find Roland
The tiefling is located in the southern part of the Blighted Lands: get out of the tavern and move down the map, to its very border. Once you reach the bridge, go down to the pier, where you will meet Roland, surrounded by shadows.
How to help Roland overcome the shadows
The battle is not much different from any other with similar opponents, so saving Rolan will not be difficult. However, keep in mind that if you ignore the character, then after 2-3 game nights he will die and the quest will fail.
Here are some tips on how to fight:
- Use light attacks to destroy the shadow faster. Both scrolls and any spells with radiant damage will do.
- Take a priest to your squad in advance, for example, Shadowheart, and focus on Rolan's health.
- Otherwise, stock up on healing potions to throw at the tiefling.
- If Rolan actively enters the battle and only gets in the way, put him to sleep or throw him away using telekinesis.
After the battle, he will be cold towards the character and upset that he was unable to save his relatives, after which he will go back to the tavern. If you do not take any further actions and continue to move through the plot, then his brothers and sisters will die, and in the future he will side with the enemy and also die.
The best decision before the battle in save the tieflings and talk to Roland in Last Light. He will be immensely grateful for your help and will become a valuable ally in the future.

It is not necessary to ignore him for several nights, he can die in one day, moreover, in one quest.
