Shovel is a tool in Sons of the Forest, which will help you dig up graves with valuable resources and open shelters. Without it, you won’t be able to fully explore the open world and go through the story.

Where to find a shovel in Sons of the Forest
You can find a shovel after receiving several plot items of equipment, without which you will not be able to explore the underground tunnels.
Prepare special equipment
Before going for a shovel prepare special equipment, without which it is simply impossible to through some parts of the cave:
- Seek out cable thrower and grab some zip line ropes.
- Find scuba and a spare cylinder in case the oxygen runs out.
Both items can be found in the same area of the map where the cave with the shovel is located.
How to find the entrance to the cave
You can find the entrance to the cave with the shovel in the southwestern part of the map, closer to the center and the snowy mountain. From the largest body of water, next to which there was a rope launcher, go northeast along the river. There will be a grotto with unnaturally colored stones. As you get closer, you will notice a gorge that you can crawl into.
Route to find a shovel in a cave
Walking a little further down the corridor, look to the left: there notice the zipline, marked with red scraps of cloth. Use the rope and get to the other side. Look to the left, where one of the flashlights is shining, use the rebreather and dive underwater.
Go down to the very bottom of the reservoir, which is a flooded crevice. Turn around and swim along the only available path. Once on the surface, move forward along the wall.
On the right side you will find workers' equipment, among which is an air cylinder, it will be useful later. Having reached the end of the corridor, jump off the cliff: the explorer will roll down the slope and end up in the next room.
In this room, look around and you will immediately notice the only lantern in the distance - follow it. Near the light source, you can find several containers with useful consumables: food, scotch tape and other items.
Go through the ravine near the lantern to reach the next room. Focus on another light source - you will notice the bodies of mine workers lying nearby. Loot them to get crafting supplies and some food.
After ing the corpses, move to the next lantern, hidden behind the stones. After ing it, you will reach the age further. You will find yourself in a large empty hall, in the center of which a lamp is burning. Go around to the right side and approach it, there find a laptop with story data and several loot boxes.
To the right of the lantern area is a age to another part of the underground location. Move along the tunnel to the end, then dive and swim along the only existing path.
Once you've reached dry land, continue exploring, keeping to the right side of the cave. You'll soon notice a multitude of rectangular lamps in the distance - follow them.
Near the cliff you will find another corpse of a miner - he will have the desired shovel in his hands.
How to get out
Moving away from the place with the shovel, move left to the end, keeping close to the wall. Soon you will reach a flooded section of the cave, where you need to get using a rebreather. If the oxygen tank runs out, replace it with the one you found earlier.
Once you reach the surface, move forward along the tunnel. After a few meters, you will find yourself in an already explored area with a flashlight in the center and a laptop.
Once you the illuminated area, keep left until you reach a age with shiny ore. Proceed into the corridor and soon you will find more deposits, as well as two miner camps. Follow the second one into a tunnel overgrown with ore.
On the left you will find a slimy mutant, closing the age. Blow it up with C4 and go through the opened tunnel.
Once you reach the end of the corridor, boldly jump down and continue your way to freedom. the hanging skeletons and very soon you will find yourself at the exit to the surface.
How to make a shovel
It is impossible to craft a shovel, since exploring the cave with this tool is smoothly integrated into the gameplay. The item can only be found in the location mentioned above.
What is a shovel used for?
The only thing you need a shovel for is excavation of land, however, exploring some locations with this tool will allow you to get additional loot.
Excavation of graves
By digging around graves, you can get to the bodies buried there and get coins, skulls, and sometimes something more useful, such as ammunition and equipment.
Opening of shelters
Some safehouses, such as Maintenance Bunker A, where useful and plot-critical items are stored, can only be opened with a shovel. The tool will allow you to dig a descent into the underground location and get down.
Tool ID
If you want to quickly get equipment, but do not want to explore the cave or get scuba gear and a rope launcher, you can simply give yourself a tool by entering the ID of the shovel in the console. To do this, first turn on cheats:
- Go to the main menu and switch to the English layout.
- Staying in the menu, type on the keyboard CHEATSTICK.
- Boot into the game and hot-open the console "F1" key.
To get a shovel, enter the command in the console - spawnitem 485 1.
