Following the release of REDkit, the official mod editor, CD Project Red launched a contest in which modders were asked to create a new quest chain with 2-3 quests for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The winners will receive graphics cards, Razer devices, and merch from the developers.
Following the results of the contest, The Witcher 3 received 3 story mods comparable to full-fledged DLCs. Among all the participants, three major modifications were noticed, each of which will add story quests, dialogues, exciting battles, new locations and much more to the game:
- Bloody beast — exploring the outskirts of the village of Lindenvale, Geralt finds a strange bear statue, the likes of which were found only on the Skellige Islands. The witcher takes up the investigation of a chain of events and goes in search of some terrible creature. The mod will add 2 new quests, 2 locations, 1 boss, 1 object and dialogues.
- Kings and Assassins — Geralt intercepts a top-secret letter written in magical ink. As soon as the witcher catches the scent, they immediately disappear. Eredin of the Wild Hunt is involved in the dark deeds, who has subjugated the old witcher Gerd to kill kings one by one. In the finale, he will have to fight Gerd of the Bear School, he uses the Signs and abilities of the Wild Hunt, which will make the battle much more difficult.
- Spider and Wolf — Geralt will once again come face to face with a familiar threat that has emerged from the shadows, and once again to strengthen his power over the inhabitants of the Northern Kingdoms with the help of dark rituals and curses. The gameplay is designed for 2-4 hours over 2-3 quests.
Some mods require you to reach a certain level and also have the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine story expansions.
