Role system in valheim concise: the developers do not offer to play specific roles, choose between good and evil, or discover talents and abilities as you progress. The character development system is focused exclusively around skill points acquired as you explore the Scandinavian islands, fight opponents and exercise.
Almost every action affects the development of the characteristics of a virtual Viking: a similar reward system has been familiar to the gaming industry since The Elder Scrollswhen jumps developed acrobatics, and fireballs fired a school of destruction. valheim takes some ideas from TS, but changes the essence of progress: the hero does not gain experience, does not unlock abilities, but only develops mastery in each category with practice.

How to develop skills and experience gain progress
Skills are pumped in process of activity. Jumping and running do not raise questions: just move around the map, jump over obstacles and hold down the Shift key. With weapons, the situation is similar - everything is very predictable. It is necessary to find an indestructible texture or at least a durable piece of stone and start practicing combat skills (an alternative scenario of actions is practice with PvP mode, otherwise the damage dealt becomes lethal). If the skill "Bows" is pumped, then you should immediately stock up patience and thousands of arrows (wooden ones will do).
The shield will have to be developed directly in battle with almost harmless opponents, like a boar: if you take a suitable position and repel each of the attacks, then the progress of the growth of the characteristic will become noticeable immediately. Things are much more difficult with secrecy: you have to move for a long time and a lot, and even without attracting someone else's attention. Not everyone will stand the test of secrecy.
The number of experience points required to advance to the next level of mastery in Valheim calculated by the formula:
(Current_skill_level+1^1.5)^0.5+0.5
And therefore, the closer to level 100, the more experience you have to accumulate, and train even more intensely and more often. But does a Viking know how to give up? On the way to Valhalla, even imable trials do not look like torture!
Death Penalties
Character death in valheim uncritical - viking already in 10-15 seconds after certain death, it is reborn either not far from the starting runestones, or next to the bed in the built dwelling. But The penalties for negligence are still provided for: talk about loss 5% accumulated skill points in each of the categories and reset the current growth progress (a filling indicator is displayed at the bottom - under each skill).
Items do not disappear after death, but remain near the place of death in the form of a gravestone that has the functionality of a chest and is divided into more than 30 cells.
5% penalty regular, but there are exceptions: periodically valheim leaves some skills intact (mostly those that are trained less often than others, like swimming). Additionally, protection is provided against repeated loss of skills during 600 seconds after death. Status "No skill loss"makes life easier in cases where the character died far from the base, things are lost and it is necessary to risk everything again in order to restore the lost tools, equipment and items.
