Lionsgate has released the first trailer for the film. Borderlands - a film adaptation of the game series of the same name. The events of the film take place in the distant future, where humanity is actively exploring space. The main source of income for people was the colonization of distant planets, which also turned into a real magnet for seekers of quick money.
The story centers on a red-haired siren with a mysterious past: the infamous treasure hunter Lilith. The girl reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the most powerful commando in the Universe. For an important cause, she forms an unlikely alliance with a ragtag team of misfits: a once-respected soldier now desperately in need of redemption; a girl bomber and her faithful protector; a woman scientist and a wise robot. The heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect a missing girl who holds the key to unimaginable power.
The original Borderlands from Gearbox was released in 2009, becoming the founder of a large series of games and an entire genre. The film adaptation of the popular shooter will not strictly follow the history of the title, but fans will easily be able to recognize all the main characters.
Work on the project has been underway since 2015; the director and screenwriter is Eli Roth, known for the horror trilogy “Hostel” and the slasher film “Thanksgiving.” Cate Blanchett will appear as Lilith; the roles of other key characters will be played by Ariana Greenblatt, Jack Black (voicing the robot), Jamie Lee Curtis, Gina Gershon, Kevin Hart, Bobby Lee, Edgar Ramirez. The film will be released worldwide on August 9, 2024.
