The Iron Throne in Baldur's Gate 3: how to save the Gondians

The Iron Throne Baldur's Gate 3 – an underwater prison of the Lower City from the third act, associated with the quests “Save the Gondians”, “Disable the Steel Guard” and “Get the Netherian Stone of Gortash”. As part of the task, you will have to go to the place of detention of hostages, whose relatives are forced to take part in the creation of mechanical defenders, and have time to save them before the destruction of the prison in a limited number of moves.

Travel on an underwater ship to the Iron Throne, where you will find among the prisoners Will's father and the illithid Omelum, but their release will be made difficult by enemy Sahwajin and the timer before the explosion. This guide will tell you how to save the Gondians in BG3 at the request of their leader, Zanner Toobin, and disable the neural switch to destroy the Steel Guard foundry.

How to start the quest Save the Gondians in BG3

To begin the quest “Save the Gondians,” talk to Zanner Toobin, whom you will find in the west of the Lower City in the security office of the Steel Guard foundry. The building is located right next to the Gray Bay Docks rune circle.

There are several ways to get to the foundry:

  • Slip through the narrow ventilationto remain unnoticed and avoid opening doors.
  • Take a directly, using stealth and hacking ages [KS - 20].
  • Go around the building counterclockwise and jump over to pier, which is a longer way.

If you have not yet ed the Iron Throne prison, then behind the Double Iron Doors you will meet Lova and several Gondians who are being tortured by Bane’s minions. Deal with them and pick them up Security office key from the corpse of the Black Hand Tamiya Holtz, then go to the corresponding room.

You can skip this stage and go straight to the underwater prison - then the first meeting with Zanner will not take place in the depths of the foundry, but next to its entrance, where only the Gondi Lova should have stood.

You can either find out the location of the prison from a document on the second floor of the foundry laboratory, or move to it without it, since then you will still end up there to destroy the Steel Guard.

Walkthrough of the quest Save the Gondians in Baldur's Gate 3

In the process of completing the quest Save the Gondians in Baldurs Gate 3, you will have to free the prisoners from the Iron Throne underwater prison, destroy the Steel Guard Foundry and decide the fate of Zanner Toobin.

How to get to the Iron Throne

The Iron Throne Prison in Baldur's Gate 3 is located under the waters in the western part of the Lower City. You can get to the boat leading into it from the Flimm's Cargo building, located south of the Confused Mermaid. The doors at the western or southern entrance to the house will have to be broken open [KS - 15 or 20]. We recommend taking the route through the door to the west.

Inside the warehouse there will be a fight against five wargs, from which you will pick up alchemical ingredients: Rrrvun, Rrrryk, Gristle, Slime and Crack.

In the northwest corner of Flimm's Cargo, you'll notice a age hidden behind some crates. Footer.

Go down and on the way to the next room you will notice a Metal Box, breaking into which [KS – 10], pick up the optional note “Plans for the underwater complex”.

In the next room, head south to "Storage of machine parts", behind the door in which you will find a unit Hell's iron.

Follow further and you will get to the “Underwater Dock”, where you will meet the Inventor Red Hammer, associated with the quest "Avenge the Drowned".

Take advantage of the Hatch of a submarine shipto go to the Iron Throne, after which a scene with Gortash will occur.

Save the Gondians

Finding yourself on a submarine, necessarily save before descending through a metal hatch, since then you have to save the prisoners for a limited amount moves (8 on the easy 6 on middle and 5 on tactics difficulty).

Location of key locations on the Iron Throne map To escape, use levers, teleportation, dash, flight, “Acceleration”, “Misty Step”, “Invisibility”, speed potions and summoned creatures. On west send one hero (maybe a thief), to East second, and on south the two remaining due to the high concentration of enemies - preferably a tank and/or a mage.

Some creatures will have to be removed from their bonds using an action "Help", namely Santoria and Omelum.

No matter how many prisoners are released, when the timer expires get to the dock with the underwater ship at least one character, until the prison of the Iron Throne collapsed. Resurrect dead squad from withered or use resurrection scrolls on their corpses, which you find on the southern shore of the Lower City.

Mistletoe knows a spell "Teleportation to a submarine ship", thanks to which you can just save one hero along with him on the last turn. However, he will not be in prison if you gave the egg to Lady Esther in the quest "Steal a Githyanki Egg".

Each turn, locations will appear Sakhwajins, so there is no point in killing them all, but they are capable of inflicting "trap", restricting movement. Also, enemies can kill several prisoners while they are running to the dock.

Obelia Toobin will get there on its own on the first move, and the rest of the prisoners are by-products.

The most important prisoner is Duke of Ravengard, located to the east of the Iron Throne in the guard wing. Depending on the reaction to what was proposed in the camp Mizora contract one of the following situations will happen:

  • The she-devil will appear and help the Duke by giving him an acceleration, due to which he will be able to reach the ship in one move.
  • Mizora will interfere and summon fire spiders - in this case, it is important to have time to restore Ravengard’s health to the maximum, otherwise he will die.

In a separate guide, they said how to save Will's father.

For salvation Mistletoe you will have to break open the door if you decide to go through from the west side [KS - 25]. There will be a lot of sahwajin on the south side, but you won't need to use thieves' tools.

In the room with the illithid you will find precious stone, gold and elixirs.

In the northwestern part of the Iron Throne, in the corner room, a Luxurious chest is stored Key to vault 6 in the ing Chamber.

In the room nearby, in another treasury, there is a Sahvajin Singing Set.

Destroy the Steelguard Foundry

There are two methods to destroy the Steel Guard foundry:

  • Plant the Dwarven explosives, kill the Gondians and gain the of the Iron Hand clan.
  • Defeat the boss and destroy the Neurocyte using the code to have a chance to save the Gondians.

In a separate manual, read about destruction of the foundry and battle with Titan.

Deliver Zanner Toobin to the Control Center

From the security office, go down to the Steel Guard Foundry, where you will encounter three groups of enemies with a pair of Hellfire Guards. We recommend leave Zanner Toobin at the door on another floor so he wouldn't be killed.

After the battle, pick up Control Level Key from the corpse of the Black Hand Hans Ryves and go north to the Vestibule of the Control Center. Then Zanner will say that he will wait until you deal with the boss in front of the neural switch.

Neural switch: how to disable

When you defeat the Steel Guard Titan, head west to the Control Center and disable the neural switch in Baldur's Gate 3 to destroy the Steel Guard Foundry. Zanner Toobin knows the , so he will do it himself if you talk to him. For blowing up a factory, characters with an Artisan background will receive Inspiration.

If you completed the task "Save Wulbren", then after the collapse in front of the foundry there will be a conversation with him, which is related to the quest "Avenge the Iron Hand Clan". As a result, you will have to choose one of the sides, which will later be able to you in the final battle, or try to come to an agreement, which will lead to one of the results:

  • Dwarves from the clan will help with the task "Gathering of Allies", if you kill Zanner Toobin with them.
  • The Gondian leader will be the only survivor (not counting his daughter), and the dwarves will leave and warn of revenge. Zanner decides to leave the city.
  • There will be a battle against Wulbren Bongle to save the surviving Gondians, and the latter will on the quest "Gathering of Allies".
  • Make peace between the clan gnomes and the Gondians, if you have previously freed Barka Ruta, which will become the new chapter.
  • The Gondians will attack after learning the truth if the prison hostages die and decide to lie.

What to do if Zanner Tubin goes missing

If Zanner Toobin disappeared or became separated from the party, it was most likely due to moving from the foundry or taking a long rest. Return to the Security Room and talk to him to return him to the team. If you are unable to start a dialogue, re-enter the game and try to start a conversation with the Gondian leader again.

What to do if Zanner Toobin died

Zanner Toobin may die before you reach the neural switch. In this case, if you did not intend to leave the Gondian alive and wanted to remain on Vulbren’s side, you would have to find out the yourself.

The fastest way to use a necromancy spell "Conversation with the Dead" and use it on Zanner's corpse to ask the question: “How can I destroy the steel guards?”. Toobin will call the code "Nebelun", after which you will go to turn off the neurocyte.

Alternatively, examine Zanner's corpse and read "Property of Zanner Toobin", how do you know that "Only the true name of Gond can destroy the neurocyte".

Then go to the east of the foundry laboratory and in the closet behind the zombie you will find a book "The Many Faces of Gond". Study it to see the required at the end.

Not far from the experiment site you will find one Illithid Parasite Sample.

How to fix the bug with Gondians

When releasing prisoners from an underwater prison, a bug may occur with the Gondians when they do not want to move. In this case, you can try applying an action to them "Push away", teleportation spell or use the help of Omelum on one desired character. If all else fails, then boot up to the moment of the first solution with Gortash's warning about breaking into the prison.

I don’t have a bathyscaphe or an NPC who could put it there. It’s just not there and that’s it :) everything is buggy to hell. The foundry is destroyed, there is no entrance. Mistletoe cannot be saved; Will's father died by his choice. Rave! The Larians didn't finish the game.

If you blow up the foundry BEFORE completing the quest, there will be a note with an explanation. In short, the quest is missed, the red grandfather decided to sail away.
